Here are the 13 GOP Congressmembers Defying Pelosi & Staging a ‘Mask Rebellion’

Thirteen members of the Republican Party are currently staging a “mask rebellion” in Congress. The decision to unmask flies in the face of Speaker Pelosi’s arbitrary decree to force members of the House of Representatives to continue wearing a mask, despite CDC guidance that suggests vaccinated people can go maskless around other vaccinated people.

The 13 members of the House of Representatives are as follows:

    • Thomas Massie
    • Lauren Boebert
    • Marjorie Taylor Greene
    • Chip Roy
    • Brian Mast
    • Bob Good
    • Mary Miller
    • Beth Van Duyne
    • Greg Steube
    • Louie Gohmert
    • Ralph Norman
    • Mariannette Miller-Meeks (a physician)
    • Madison Cawthorn

As reported by Jordan Schachtel, the coalition is currently “growing.” Speaker Pelosi imposed $500 daily fines for Congressmembers who go without masks on the House floor in January, which came after three Democratic Reps. contracted COVID-19. The fines would come directly out of Congressmembers’ paychecks.

Mask mandates do not appear have any statistically significant effect on COVID-related case rates or death rates. Whether or not masks themselves have any marginal effect is a separate matter. A recent CDC study showed they have 0.9%-1.9% effect on case rates if used for 100 days.

Republican Congressmembers earlier prompted controversy and outrage during the January 6th riots when numerous members of the party were video recorded without masks. As reported by Forbes:

Video footage from Punchbowl News recorded as lawmakers were sheltering in a secret location Wednesday shows unmasked Republican lawmakers being offered face masks and refusing them, and Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.) estimated to CBS News that approximately half of the 300 to 400 people in the room refused to wear masks.

The “mask rebellion” comes amidst a report of zero COVID deaths recorded on one day in the State of Texas, which follows upon the state’s lifting of mask mandates and capacity restrictions on businesses on March 10th.  The Republicans may hope to exact a political cost from Democrats who obstinately insist on mask mandates in the face of the actual science.
