The Tokyo Olympics have become the least-watched Olympics in recent-memory. And Bill Maher has news for the executives who say it’s due to “bad luck,” whether it’s regarding the pandemic or other lame excuses.
We’re all sick of the Woke nonsense and millions of Americans refuse to watch it anymore.
“Please don’t turn the Olympics into the Oscars,” Maher said on his show Friday. “Oh, what was that? They did already?”
“You know, back in April, when the Oscars aired, I commented in this space that the theme of that evening was ‘We dare you to be entertained’ — lest your mind waver from thinking about the sad things and bad people in the world,” Maher added.
“Well, thank God we found some of those bad people now in the Olympics, and not a moment too soon,” he continued.
Maher pointed out the rampant ‘cancel culture’ at the Olympics and cited a number of examples.
“This is called a purge. It’s a mentality that belongs in Stalin’s Russia,” Maher said. “How bad does this atmosphere we are living in have to get before the people who say cancel culture is overblown admit that it is in fact an insanity that is swallowing up the world?”
Bill Maher explained how the Olympics are about ‘coming together,’ and should be about sharing our cultures.
“Change is not synonymous with progress,” he said. “Newer doesn’t automatically mean better. This new idea that each culture must remain in its own separate silo. It’s not better. And it’s not progress.”
“And in fact, it’s messing with one of the few ideas that still makes this melting pot called America great,” he continued. “Not everything is about oppression.”
Maher’s remarks also go to the noticeable decline in Olympics viewership.
“We’ve had some bad luck,” NBC Universal CEO Jeff Shell said during an earnings call with investors this week, as reported by the Washington Post.
“According to Nielsen, the opening ceremony in Tokyo drew 16.7 million viewers on NBC on July 23, accounting for both the live morning broadcast and the replay in prime time — the smallest audience for an opening ceremony in the past 33 years,” WaPo reported. “It was down from 26.5 million who watched the event in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and 40.7 million people who watched London’s ceremony.”
“Through the first four nights of the Games, according to Sportico, viewership of NBCUniversal’s Olympics coverage, across its networks, is down 43 percent compared with Rio de Janeiro, to 17.5 million viewers from 30.7 million. Primetime coverage on the NBC is down nearly 50 percent,” the report added.
WaPo bends itself more than an Olympic gymnast trying to explain why the numbers are down. It says in a broad-brushed fashion that it is due to “antipathy” on the part of the American public for sports. Never once does it admit that it could be due to the incessant, insufferable virtue-signaling on the part of grandstanding leftists.
People are tired of the negativity, and the crisising, and the doom-mongering, and the anti-patriotic displays, and the ‘brave’ displays of Woke leftist propaganda. And they’re not tuning in for it any more. Plain and simple.
