President Biden traveled to New York City on Thursday to announce new “actions” targeting gun violence in the nation’s largest city — a city divided and under siege by out-of-control violence after eight disastrous years under former hapless and hopeless Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Just days after two NYPD police officers were killed by a suspect using an illegal gun, Biden did what Democrats always do after high-profile gun violence — he blamed guns and Second Amendment rights. And in this case, of course, he alluded to “racism,” as transcribed by ABC News.
“Enough is enough because we know we can do things about this,” Biden said during remarks at NYPD headquarters, then this:
The answer is not to defund the police. It’s to give you the tools, the training, the funding to be partners, to be protectors and community needs you. Police need to treat everyone with respect and dignity.
We’ll get to that last line about “police treating everyone with respect and dignity” in a bit. But first, let’s marvel at Joe’s bizarre attack on gun rights and the Second Amendment.
We talk like there’s no Amendment that’s absolute. When the Amendment was passed it didn’t say anybody could own a gun and any kind of gun and any kind of weapon. You couldn’t buy a cannon when this Amendment was passed.
Wait — what?

Not only was Biden’s claim about cannons categorically false; as has been the case with many of his lies, he continues to repeat it. On June 23, 2021, he said the following:
And I might add: The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon.
That effort earned Biden Four Pinocchios from Washington Post fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, who said after Wednesday’s same claim:
We have no idea where he conjured up this notion about a ban on cannon ownership in the early days of the Republic, but he needs to stop making this claim.
Memo to Glenn Kessler: Biden has never stopped lying the same lies, over and over again, and he’s never going to stop.

The cannon claim wasn’t the only ridiculous claim Biden made during comments in New York on Thursday. Here he is incorrectly claiming the gun industry is “the only industry in America that is exempted from being sued, and I find it to be outrageous.”

Again, demonstrably false. Even CNN has pointed out that Biden’s claim — which he has also previously made — is false:
Gun manufacturers are not exempt from being sued, nor are they the only industry with some liability protections.
Under the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, gun manufacturers cannot be held liable for the use of their products in a crime.
However, gun manufacturers can still be held liable for (and thus sued for) a range of things, including negligence, breach of contract regarding the purchase of a gun, or certain damages from defects in the design of a gun.
In 2019, the Supreme Court allowed a lawsuit against gun manufacturer Remington Arms Company to continue.
The plaintiffs … are attempting to hold the company, which manufactured the semi-automatic rifle that was used in the killing, partly responsible by targeting the company’s marketing practices, another area where gun manufacturers can be held liable.
Not to rain on Biden’s parade, but crime — not cops, legal gun owners, nor racist white people — is the largest threat to black lives. As noted by The New York Times in January, not only are most homicide victims Black; Black Americans were more than eight times more likely to be murdered in 2020 than were White Americans.
And while the number of murders continues to rise in major cities across the country — all controlled by Democrats, mind you — the ratios have remained virtually the same for at least four decades. As the Department of Justice reported in 1983, a Black murder victim was killed by another Black in about 80-90% of the cases, with about 52% of the murder victims acquainted with their assailants.
Finally — and just for fun (ours) — Biden also claimed that a Glock handgun is a “weapon of war” — one of the left’s favorite gun-grabber code phrases that could not be more false.

The amusing part of Biden’s false claims — lies — is the arrogant confidence with which he says them. Ronald Reagan famously said of the left: The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
Joe Biden’s relationship with what “isn’t true” could not be closer.
