Biden Makes ‘Surprise’ Visit to Ukraine to Express His Unwavering Support for Zelensky

President Joe Biden made a ‘surprise’ visit to Kyiv, Ukraine on Monday to express the US’ unwavering support for Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky amid his nation’s war against Russia.

Joe Biden toured the Ukrainian capitol with Zelensky as air raid sirens sounded in the background. There were no confirmed reports of Russian military operations in Ukrainian air space on Monday.

There was further footage obtained from the presidents’ tour of the Kyivan streets.

The New York Times reported that the US president pledged another half a billion in military aid to the Ukrainian leader.

“As air-raid sirens sounded, Mr. Biden strolled in the sunshine with President Volodymyr Zelensky and announced $500 million in additional military aid for Ukraine during a joint news conference at which he recalled the beginning of the invasion last Feb. 24,” the Times reported.

“One year later, Kyiv stands,” Biden said. “And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands.”

In March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invoked emergency powers under martial law to suppress 11 political opposition parties, carried out a repression campaign against the Orthodox Church, and effectively nationalized the media under a “unified information policy.”

During his visit to Ukraine, Biden gave a speech in Kyiv, in which he boasted that “Putin’s war of conquest is failing.”

As U.S. President Joe Biden stood at attention with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a red mark was spotted underneath Biden’s foot.

The purpose of the spot was unclear, but several observers speculated that it was a marking to show the president where to stand.

This is Biden’s eighth known trip to Ukraine.

“It’s good to be back in Kyiv,” Biden said. It looks like Volodymyr Zelensky couldn’t agree more.
