Bill Maher Rightly Asks If Putin Would Have Invaded Ukraine if Trump Were President

Bill Maher may strike people as a self-conscious iconoclast, a contrarian-for-contrarian’s-sake, a gadfly, a media provocateur, and a comedic opportunist. All of that is true. But at least he asks damn good questions.

One of them is musing about whether or not Russian despot Vladimir Putin would have invaded Ukraine on President Trump’s watch.

“Okay, but if Putin thought Trump was really that supportive of him, why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office?” Maher asked. “It’s at least worth asking that question if you’re not locked into one intransigent thought.”

Maher also criticized people who were taking to social media to float their tributary support of Ukraine without knowing anything about the roots of the crisis.

“Don’t take this personally but don’t take everything personally. Ukraine is not mostly about your pet grievances, it’s about Vladimir Putin’s,” he said.

Maher made sure to distance himself from Trump, whom he referred to as the ‘worst president ever.’

“Now, one guy we know is locked into one thought is Donald Trump, who would ask what went wrong with Ukraine said, ‘Well, what went wrong was a rigged election.’ Kanye thinks less about Pete Davidson than Trump thinks about the rigged election,” Maher joked.

Maher is at least savaging elites in both parties. That is more than can be said for the majority of Hollywood leftists in entertainment media, who reflexively shill for the Democratic Party.

On that front, however, Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah, host of the Daily Show, surprised viewers with a defense of Donald Trump this week.

“You have got to be kidding me,” Noah said. “Apparently, Saudi Arabia won’t even pick up the phone for the president of the United States.”

Noah is referring to a WSJ-sourced report that both the Saudis and the United Arab Emirates effectively sent Biden to voicemail when he tried to call for OPEC oil and gas assistance.

“I mean, look, I know it’s hard to arrange those calls,” he said. “You know, Riyadh is eight hours ahead, Biden is asleep by 4 p.m., it’s a narrow window to make it work, but still: That must have been really embarrassing for Biden. Can you imagine? He phones them and they don’t pick up?”

“Now, according to the White House, this story is totally untrue. They deny it, which I would too. But either way, man, there is no denying that Saudi Arabia isn’t playing ball with Joe Biden. And you know what? You can say what you want, but this would have never happened to Donald Trump. Never.”

“No one was ever ignoring Donald Trump’s calls,” he added. “‘Cause if you ignored Donald Trump’s calls, you didn’t know how he would respond. Maybe he’d send an angry tweet, or maybe he’d just, like, ban your country from everything. You don’t know.”

“That’s why I bet, in these situations, Biden actually wishes that he could hire Trump to step in as ‘President Wild Card.’ You know, just keep everyone on their toes. ‘Cause if Trump was calling, you best believe the UAE, they’d be racing to pick up the phone.”

When the Democrats are losing Hollywood leftists this early into a campaign year, and even going so far as to pine for the relative stability of the Trump years, you know the Biden presidency is in deep, deep trouble.
