Wisconsin Republican Announces Subpoenas, Launches ‘Top- to-Bottom’ Review of 2020 Election in Select Counties

The Republican Chairwoman of the State Assembly in Wisconsin is launching a “top-to-bottom” review of 2020 elections in two select counties in the state. State Rep. Janel Brandtjen announced that Milwaukee and Brown counties were served subpoenas to hand over materials related to the election.

Chairwoman Brandtjen made the announcement in a release on Friday.

“Today, State Representative Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls) announced the issuance of subpoenas for election materials from Milwaukee and Brown counties in furtherance of the Assembly Campaigns and Elections Committee’s top-to-bottom investigation of the 2020 Presidential General Election, as directed by the enrolled 2021 Assembly Resolution 15,” Brandtjen said.

“Legislators have been hearing from thousands of disgruntled constituents regarding their concerns with the November 2020 election,” she continued. “From outside money pouring into Democrat-controlled communities, to individuals engaging in questionable activities; from improper guidance given to clerks from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, to clerks illegally prompting voters to declare themselves ‘indefinitely confined’,” the statement said. “The list goes on and on.”

“I understand the Legislative Audit Bureau is conducting an audit, however, many constituents have raised objections to it due to the length of time it has taken and the lack of specifics, as it is open-ended,” she added. “I also appreciate that the Committee on Assembly Organization has authorized the Speaker to hire legal counsel and employ investigators to assist the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections in investigating the administration of elections in Wisconsin and that additional resources are being provided for that purpose.”

“I sincerely welcome and applaud these efforts, however, the people of Wisconsin demand and deserve a transparent, full, cyber-forensic audit as described in the subpoenas submitted to both Milwaukee and Brown Counties,” Brandtjen said. “The clock is ticking as the 2022 elections will commence in just a matter of months.”

“As the Chair of the Assembly Committee of Campaigns and Elections, I am issuing these subpoenas as the first step towards a full, cyber-forensic audit of tabulators and inspection of the physical ballots from the November 2020 fall election,” the Wisconsin Chairwoman concluded.

The Washington Examiner provided some background on the Republican Chairwoman’s filing of the subpoenas and call to review the 2020 election.

“Brandtjen, who traveled to Arizona in June and indicated that she wants to emulate the controversial audit being performed in Maricopa County, said the subpoenas were issued ‘as the first step towards a full, cyber-forensic audit of tabulators and inspection of physical ballots’ used in the election, though her statement did not reveal the content of the subpoenas or exactly which materials were requested,” the Examiner reported. “She said previously that IP addresses, chain of custody on ballots, and audit trail logs were among the materials that should be reviewed.”

“Two other investigations into the 2020 election in Wisconsin are underway, including one led by the state’s Legislative Audit Bureau, which among other things is reviewing whether the state’s Elections Commission and municipal clerks followed Wisconsin election laws, and another authorized by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos,” the report added.
