The U.S. attorney working on the Hunter Biden case, a prosecutor known for taking on powerful Delaware political figures, made moves to ensure case developments stayed out of the 2020 president election campaign cycle.
David Weiss, a veteran U.S. attorney, “kept his investigation into Biden’s son out of the 2020 campaign,” according to a new report by Politico.
Federal officials advising the prosecutor Weiss told him to “avoid taking any actions that could alert the public to the existence of the case in the middle of a presidential election,” the report noted.
“To his credit, he listened,” one person involved told the publication. The Politico report buries the relevant information about Hunter Biden after couching it in the usual “Republicans pounce” rhetoric and a hefty biopic about Weiss. Then it proceeds with the story.
“In 2017, Trump nominated Weiss to serve as U.S. attorney on a permanent basis on the recommendation of Delaware’s two Democratic senators, who both praised the choice,” it gave as background.
“By late 2018, Weiss’s office was investigating Hunter Biden’s activities in response to a number of leads, including some related to his dealings with Chinese business associates,” the report added.
“While investigators pursued suspicions of possible money laundering and violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, the criminal investigation eventually came to focus on whether he had paid taxes on all of his income, according to a person familiar with it. Hunter Biden has maintained that he acted appropriately,” the report said.
“By last summer, the probe had reached a point at which investigators could have issued grand jury subpoenas and sought search warrants that might have revealed its existence at a time when many of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters were seeking to draw attention to Hunter Biden’s actions,” it continued.
“Weiss, however, decided to delay taking any actions that were likely to make the existence of the Hunter Biden probe public,” it added. “Concerns about affecting the presidential election loomed large when Weiss entertained arguments about advancing the probe, according to the person involved in the discussions. No matter what he did, the decision was sure to come under scrutiny for signs of politicization.”
“It was a close call,” said the person, who believes Weiss was right to hold off. “That case has way more credibility now,” the person said.
Of course, this is nonsense. Prosecutors never hesitated to bring any cases about Biden’s rival Donald Trump to court, no matter how frivolous; in fact, the closer to the election, the better. There is literally ‘smoking gun’ evidence against Hunter Biden that has been in the prosecutors’ possession since 2018. Gun charges, drug charges, money laundering, bribery, and all the rest, are not piccadilloes that only GOP partisans should care about. They are violations of federal law, and it shouldn’t have to be pointed out, but a looming national security threat that could impact the entire country.
The simple fact is that the discredited Steele dossier was used as a flimsy premise to get illegal FISA surveillance on the Trump campaign. The Hunter Biden laptop, however, contained real, substantive evidence that could have been pursued vigorously.
Prosecutors didn’t just drag their feet on it, so did the major news media outside of a few outlets, such as the New York Post and Fox News. Even worse than that, Big Tech outlets censored information related to the Hunter Biden laptop. If that isn’t political collusion and election interference, then nothing is.
