L.A. Teacher’s Union Gets Blowback for Warning: *DON’T* Share Photos of Vacation & International Travel

The L.A. Teacher’s Union refuses to get kids back to in-person schooling, but if they should decide to spend their time away from the actual classroom on vacation, they are being given a warning: Don’t share your photos of you frolicking and having a good time. It could be a PR headache.

“In a leaked post from a private Facebook group for UTLA union members only, teachers are warned not to post on social media if they go on spring break vacations because the optics would be bad for them while UTLA is refusing to return to ‘unsafe’ in-person schooling,” Bill Melugin, a FOX LA investigative correspondent, reported on Twitter.

The post from the now-privated Facebook group states warns the teachers against traveling and posting vacation photos.

“Friendly reminder: If you are planning any trips for Spring Break, please keep that off Social Media,” the leaked post reads. “It is hard to argue that it is unsafe for in-person instruction, if parents and the public see vacation photos and international travel.”

The Facebook group has now blocked all reporters and parents from checking out the message or other union communications on Facebook.

Melugin reached out to the union for comment.

Statement from UTLA to FOXLA when we asked about the post: “We have a diverse membership and they are able to post their views on personal Facebook pages and in this Facebook group – however UTLA does not monitor nor is responsible for the content.”

At least one L.A. teacher fought back on Twitter against the news story.

“Yo! UTLA Teacher here,” user @Vegan_Jennier responded. “This was to discourage any teacher who might even think of traveling to post about it. Literally every single comment on the post was saying we are not going ANYWHERE and would be ‘vacationing’ in our living rooms and backyards. Too bad that wasn’t shared.”

Melugin wasn’t buying that this information couldn’t be shared with the public.

“I would love to see the full thread. What’s stopping you from sharing it yourself?” he responded. “Your union has blocked me, other reporters, parents, and even other teachers on social media, and this thread comes from a closed, private group that I don’t have access to. Feel free to share!”

The L.A. teacher’s union has gone to extreme lengths to keep teacher’s from going back to in-person instruction. As the Washington Examiner reported, the union even called a plan to reopen the schools as furthering “structural racism.”

“If you condition funding on the reopening of schools, that money will only go to white and wealthier and healthier school communities that do not have the transmission rates that low-income Black and Brown communities do,” UTLA president Cecily Myart-Cruz said. “This is a recipe for propagating structural racism and it is deeply unfair to the students we serve.”

It’s a recipe for propagating nonsense is what it is.
