Maximum Cringe: Kamala Harris’s ‘Woke Joke’ Falls Flat at Navy Academy

Kamala Harris addressed the graduating class of the United States Naval Academy on Friday. The vice president focused on the role the Navy can play solving some of the Biden administration’s most urgent challenges, such as the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and cybersecurity threats.

In the course of the speech, however, Harris whipped out some of that well-known charm that made her a bottom-tier candidate during the 2020 presidential primaries. You can feel the cringe from here:

“You are electrical engineers,” Harris said. “Who will soon help convert solar and wind energy into power — convert solar and wind energy into combat power.”

But Harris was just getting warmed up. You can feel the energy in the room… leaving the more that the vice president talked.

“And just ask any Marine today, would she rather carry twenty pounds of batteries or rolled up solar panels?” she asked. “And I am positive she will tell you a ‘solar panel,’ and so would he.”

The audience didn’t even know it was some kind of joke until Harris cackled. Then she somehow got some polite applause. Embarrassing.

It’s not just that her joke was unfunny, it’s that telling a U.S. military responsible for the security of a country to rely on notoriously unreliable solar energy is itself a joke. The radical left’s environmental extremism may wind up getting people killed, not that the Democratic Party cares.

In a speech in mid-May, Joe Biden also demonstrated its ‘rapport’ with American servicemembers when he admonished Coast Guard graduates for not clapping for the president at his first speech at a service while in office. Watch:

“I can only assume that you will enjoy educating your family about how the Coast Guard is, quote, ‘the hard nucleus around the Navy forms in times of war’,” Biden said.

Biden was upset that the Coast Guard graduates didn’t appreciate his swiped line and so he gently lashed out at them.

“You are… you are a really dull class,” he said. “Now, come on, man. Is the sun getting to you? I would think you would have an opportunity when I say that about the Navy, to clap… but being here together⁠—”

At least he didn’t say, ‘clap for me, you stupid bastards.’ The White House is making progress.
