A California judge ordered the release of the bodycam footage from the attack on Paul Pelosi in late October, as well as a recording of his 911 call.
The bodycam footage is graphic. Viewer discretion is advised.
The video shows Paul Pelosi and DePape opening the door to the officers. After a brief discussion with the officers, DePape violently attacks Pelosi with a hammer.
David DePape had been accused of breaking into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home and attacking him with a hammer, which fractured the 82-year-old’s skull and caused other serious injuries. DePape has been characterized as “mentally ill” drug user who has struggled with homelessness.
A dozen news organizations had asked the court to order the San Francisco district attorney’s office to release copies of the records submitted into evidence. DePape’s lawyers had opposed making that evidence public, arguing it could jeopardize his right to a fair trial and stir up more ‘misinformation’ about the case.
The bodycam footage will go far to put some of the questions the public had about the case to rest, but there are still more questions about the bizarre incident yet to be resolved.
This is breaking news. It will be updated as more information comes in.
